The S-Lift: A Facelift With Less Scarring And Quicker Recovery
More people are having elective cosmetic surgery today than ever before. Besides our ageing baby boom population and their desire to look young forever, one of the biggest reasons is the development of less invasive procedures that lower the risks and allow a quicker recovery. Drooping skin and soft tissue in the neck and face region are tell tale signs of ageing. A less invasive facelift has been developed to address many of the ageing problems seen in the face and neck. It is called the “S” lift or “mini-facelift” because the incision resembles an S . (link to S lift photos) The incision starts across the hair in the sideburn region and continues down in the crease in front of the ear to the earlobe and then slightly behind it. The facial skin is tightened in a slight upward and backward direction and the neck is smoothed with liposuction and skin tightening. If you’ve ever looked in a mirror and pulled your neck and face skin tighter by pulling toward your ear, you’ll have some idea of what can be done. The idea is to make the skin have less sag and to create a smoother line from the jaw to the angle of the neck. The overtightened, pulled, wind tunnel look is avoided at all costs.
The procedure takes about an hour and a half and can be done under local anesthesia if desired. Most people elect to have some form of sedation or general anesthesia. It is a safe procedure with very few risks. Recovery takes 5 to 7 days on average and there is often little to no bruising. All but two of the stitches dissolve and you can shower the next day, including your hair.
The S lift can be done alone or in combination with forehead, mid-face and eyelid rejuvenation.
The S-lift is usually performed in an outpatient setting. Safety is our number one concern and should be yours also. We insist in doing all of our surgeries in a hospital owned facility with state of the art equipment, specialized nurses and staff, and board certified anesthesiologists. You deserve nothing less.
